Student of the Month

May

Nikki’s school activities include: SADD, TAT, Prom Committee, Yearbook Committee, and a member of the Volleyball and Softball teams.  Outside of school, she volunteers with the Red Cross Blood Drive, Make-A-Wish Tournament, Cancer Awareness Powder Puff Football Game, St. Clair Fish & Game Easter Egg Hunt, and the Miners Squeezing Together Lemonade Stand.  Her future plans are to attend Penn State majoring in Radiological Sciences.

Ethan is a member of the Varsity Baseball and Soccer team.  Outside of school, Ethan participated in the road cleanup for Earth Day and volunteered cleaning at the Trinity Chapel Church in Buck Run. His future plans are to attend York College and major in Radiography.

April

Alyssa is the daughter of Mark and Sherri Hammer.  Her school activities include: Class Secretary, Yearbook Committee, SADD, TAT, Spirit Club, Prom Committee, Life Skills Club, and a member of the Varsity Soccer and Track Teams.  Outside of school, she volunteers with the Red Cross Blood Drive, the Minersville Borough Annual Haunted House, and the local S.P.C.A walking dogs.  Her future plans are to attend Lebanon Valley College, majoring in Medical Laboratory Science and play on LVC’s Women’s Soccer Team.

James is the son of Jim and Michelle Chicora.  He is currently enrolled in the Automotive Technology Program at the Schuylkill Technology Center.  His school activities include:  Schuylkill Technology Center Student Ambassador, Youth Summit Representative, Skills USA Carpenter winning First Place in the Automotive Maintenance District Competition in 2020.  James was a member of the Varsity Football and Williams Valley Trapshooting teams.  He is also currently participating in a Cooperative Education Experience at Sand’s Ford of Pottsville as an Automotive Mechanic.  He has volunteered with the Llewellyn Boy Scout Troop 600 since 2014 and earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 2020.  While volunteering with the Boy Scouts he has participated in numerous food drives, community clean ups, flag ceremonies, flag retirement ceremonies and Wreaths Across America.  James plans to pursue a career as an Automotive Mechanic.

March

Shea Hossler is the daughter of Jeremy and Brenda Hossler.  Her school activities include: the Life Skills Club, TAT, SADD, member of the Softball Team, Captain of the Girls’ Soccer team and Captain of the Girls’ Basketball team.  Outside of school, she is an Altar Server at Holy Family Parish in Minersville, a volunteer with Minersville Area Youth Basketball, Make-A-Wish and the Red Cross Blood Drive.  Her future plans are to attend college majoring in Early Childhood Education.

Lucas Hydock is the son of Michael and Debra Hydock.  His school activities include: Vice President of the Drama Club, Varsity Academic League, Co-Vice President of the Marching/Concert Band, member of the Choir, Head Editor of the School Newspaper and Yearbook.  Outside of school, he is involved with the Schuylkill County Chorus, Schuylkill County Band, and employed at Boyer’s Markets.  His future plans are to attend Penn State University, majoring in Film/Cinematography Production.

February

Lauren Zula is the daughter of Richard and Melissa Zula. She is a member of Track and Field, and is also a member of the Junior Garland Group, Teens Against Tobacco, SADD Club, and Life Skills Club. Outside of school, she can be found working at the annual Minersville Borough Haunted House, the Annual Blood Drive, and for the Mt. Pleasant Fire Company. She plans to attend Bloomsburg University and become a nurse practitioner.

Cole Stevenosky is the son of Martina and Peter Stevenosky. Cole is a varsity member of the Academic League team. Additionally, he is a member of the Drama Club, the German Club, and Concert Choir. He is also a member of both the concert and marching bands. In addition to these extracurriculars, he also participated in the Schuylkill County Band, the Schuylkill County Chorus, and the PA Lions All-State Band. He also works as a lifeguard at JFK Pool, and is head guard at the Minersville pool. He plans to study Chemical and Biological Engineering at Princeton University.

January

MaKaila Frie-Karkanica. Her school activities include being a Staff Member for the Minersville Athletic Department, the Spirit Committee, SADD, TAT, Spanish Club, Yearbook Committee, and AP Biology Club.  She is also a member of the Volleyball, Softball, and Track and Field teams.  Outside of school, she donated food and blood to the Red Cross, volunteered at the Minersville Borough Haunted House, South Cass Annual Summer Breakfast, St. Matthew’s Church Food Event, and the Annual MAHS Cancer Football Game.  Her future plan is to Major in Nursing to become a Flight Nurse.

Aaron Thomas Polansky. His school activities include being a Staff Member for the Minersville Athletic Department, Academic League, Jr. Sr. Drug & Alcohol Advisory Board, and a member of the Varsity Soccer Team and Track and Field Team.  Aaron volunteers at the Branchdale Booster Club, Branchdale Firehouse Chinese Auction, St. John’s Fish Dinner, and is employed at BG’s Value Market.  His future plan is to attend Penn State and major in Engineering.

December

Sara Marie Motley is the daughter of Bill and Lori Motley. Her favorite subjects include A.P. Biology, A.P. Calculus, and History. Sara is a varsity member of the girls’ volleyball team and a member of the girls’ basketball team. She is also a member of the Spirit Committee, SADD Club, Teens Against Tobacco, the Spanish Club, Lifeskills Club, Prom Committee, and the National Honors Society. She has also been Vice-President of her class for four years. She plans to further her education at Bloomsburg University and become a nurse anesthetist.

Connor Robert Adams is the son of Kristi and Ken Adams. His favorite subjects include World History and Environmental Science. Connor is a varsity member of the boys’ soccer team. He also a member of the yearbook committee, prom committee, 5 year member of the athletic staff, a blood donor, and class treasurer. He plans to go to Penn State Schuylkill and major in Project and Supply Chain Management.

November

Sarah Hummel is the daughter of Andrea and Sam Hummel. Her favorite subjects include Sociology and Psychology. Sarah is a member of the German club and Drama club, she is also part of the yearbook committee, athletic department, and National Honors Society. She plans to attend college with a major in graphic design.

Alex Lohin is the son of Karen and Robert Lohin. His favorite subjects are Biology and Calculus. He is a varsity member of the boys’ baseball and soccer team. He also is a member of the Spanish Club, Teens Against Tobacco, and the National Honors Society. He also works on the athletic staff of Mr. Dry. He plans to go to college and major in chemical engineering.

October

Megan Horan is the daughter of Louise and Tom Horan. Her favorite subject is Math. Megan serves as president of her class, and is also a varsity member of girl’s soccer, and girl’s basketball. She is also a member of Teens Against Tobacco, Diversity Club, Lifeskills Club, SADD Club, Spanish Club, the yearbook committee, and the National Honors Society. She has also been her class President for six years. She plans to attend college with a major in biomedical engineering.

Jack Leonard is the son of Jessica and John Leonard. His favorite subjects are A.P Biology, A.P Calculus, and World History. He is a varsity member of the boy’s soccer team, and track and field. He’s also a member of SADD Club, Spanish Club, the yearbook committee, and the National Honors Society. He plans to attend college with a major in environmental engineering.
